Here you will find a showcase of my ceramics under the name Sienblue Pottery.
I am Renée Ferguson and have been working with clay for over 30 years. I used to have
a studio on a quiet hill on the southeast coast of Australia, overlooking the hills. Today I am in Bavaria, near the Alps.
I once lived in Taiwan and that was where my ceramic abilities grew. Then I went to China for a few years and managed to make a few pieces, and also participating in two major Art shows in Beijing and Guangzhou.
I mostly make functional pieces that are to be used and become part of everyday living.
Handmade pottery has character, a bit of attitude here and there, some subtle, some 'out' there.
When you hold a handmade ceramic piece it wants you to pay attention to its “one & only” status. And it begs you to touch it. My aim is always to make pieces that show these qualities through textures, finger marks, improvised parts & irregularities.
Hours have been spent and skin has been worn off my fingers while playing with mud.
I am self-taught and have studied and tested the reliability of raw materials using a gas kiln. I've mixed my own glazes and made clay bodies from scratch. All done while staying focused on keeping a sense of humor over the slight success rate that goes hand in hand with hommade ceramics.
Ah, such is the art of aiming for perfection.
Like managing the stages in one's life, this approach has given me
no guaranteed long-term control over ceramics but I've had fun with it.
And I plan to continue doing so one way or another.
It's all about free will [both mine & the clay's],
the sky & what I have eaten and seen at breakfast time.
I love the look of all things handmade.
I mean, I want to see fingerprints.
Enjoy your visit around my site & thanks for stopping by.
